Insanity Fit Test Results #2

As promised here’s my update after my 2nd fit test! This is right where I quit the first time I tried Insanity and trust me I’m sticking it through this time. I’ve been pushing hard so I could really see some improvement on my numbers and I’m happy to report an uptick across the board. Check it out: Results Workout Day 1 Day 15 % Change Switch Kicks 87 115 +32% Power Jacks 47 64 +36% Power Knees 85 101 +19% Power Jumps 18 39  +116% Globe Jumps 6 9 +50% Suicide Jumps 10 13 +30% Push-Up Jacks 15 23 +53% Low Plank Oblique 23 43 +87% I’m pumped to push hard so I can beat these numbers on my Fit Test #3.   Updates Vince my colleague and fellow Tough Mudder has officially started his 60-day challenge and you can keep track of his progress here. Also, his stats for his first fit test:     Workout Day 1 Day 15 Day 36 Day 50 Day 63 Switch Kicks 60 Power Jacks 34 Power Knees 70 Power Jumps 20 Globe Jumps 07 Suicide Jumps 13 Push-Up Jacks 23 Low Plank Oblique 36 Good job Vince, you definitely look better than me! For now… 🙂   Current Stats As of today I’ve done 17 workouts and they’re still hard as hell but I’m able to push harder without that familiar feeling of wanting to puke. Yesterday pushed through “Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs” and I definitely feel it right now.  Here’s a breakdown of the workouts since I started. Fit Test x2 Plyometric Cardio Circuit x4 Cardio Power & Resistance x3 Cardio Recovery x2 Pure Cardio x4 Cardio Abs x2 (same day as Pure Cardio) No lost weight yet but I’ve been melting fat like butter! The most obvious are my chest and oblique’s. My legs didn’t have any fat to begin with so I’m starting to look like a pro soccer player. Tonight is “Cardio Recovery” and tomorrow it’s time to jump back into “Cardio Power & Resistance” How’s it feel? Overall I’m feeling amazing, especially right after the workout. Usually get a 2 or 3 hour rush and it slowly mellows throughout the rest of the day. Missed one workout last week so I made it up the next day cramming two session in (one in the morning and one at night) and I was on cloud 9 for a bit… not so much the next day though. Started working out at night regularly this week and I have no problem falling asleep and getting a full 8 in. Looking forward to the recovery session tonight to...

Halloween Project 2013: Pumpktris!

Pumpktris Complete! My Halloween project for 2013 is Pumpktris!  Like Nathan Pryor of hahabird.com said “What do you get when you combine a pumpkin with the classic video game Tetris? Pumpktris! Fully playable, embedded in a pumpkin, and with the stem serving as a controller.” Here’s my attempt at creating Nathan’s award winning Pumpktris.   The foam pumpkin doesn’t carve like a real pumpkin so it doesn’t quite “glow” like his. On the positive side it will be around for a few Halloween’s to come and who knows what features I can add in the future! I won’t take credit for any of the creative side of coming up with such a unique project but I will take credit for the 18+ hours of actually building it! I’m hoping my girlfriend can help me spruce up the outside before Halloween or else it will have to wait for next year to get a face lift. Last night I had the first chance to turn it on and my girlfriend’s nephew Ian couldn’t wait to be the first to play! Check it out.     Why I Did This Like I mentioned on my previous post Halloween Project Coming Soon! I really just wanted to have some fun building something that most people (especially my friends and family) haven’t seen. I bumped into Pumpktris last Halloween on Instructables.com and immediatley had the desire to build my own! A year later I still had the desire so I decided to start working on it and have some fun. Unfortunately after my 4th hour of soldering, I definitely started wondering WHY  I thought this would be fun! Now I’m super happy I pushed through and completed it on time (my self-imposed deadline 10/26) to bring it to our annual pumpkin carving gathering. I’ve learned that if I don’t set deadlines for myself I can be a professional procrastinator. After Ian started playing, it was tough to get him to share! He’s a great kid and eventually he let everyone have a turn…sorta of! I knew the project itself would be a ton of fun but I never really thought about how much people would really enjoy playing games on a pumpkin.  This really inspires me to do more fun project like this every now and then so I can write about them here for everyone to enjoy.   The Guts of It Here’s a slideshow of the entire process if you want to save yourself the grueling details: Fake-Pumpkin Farm Wires Daisy-Chain Cutting the back One side down Open back iPhone LED inside for fun Template ready Starting hole Used my volt meter...

Halloween Project
Coming Soon!

I wanted to have a little fun this halloween and try building something I saw around this time last year.  It came in 2nd place on Instructables.com Halloween Challenge for 2012.   Errr… no it’s not the copper chopper, I wouldn’t even know where to start!   I’m really excited about recreating Pumpktris! Originally posted on hahabird.com and created by Nathan Pryor in 2012. Thanks Nathan!   I’ve been waiting all year for Halloween to come around so I could start building it.  I probably should have started wayyy earlier because I’ll be building it after work in my parents garage/workshop (I have no workspace in my tiny apartment). My goal is to have it completed by Oct 26! Features: Fake pumpkin! (no rotting) 128 LED Matrix Joystick Controller (possibly an android app if someone has a phone/tablet they can lend for a week) Ability to play other games like Pong, Shoot em Up, and custom images Challenges: Time – I have a week to go and just received most of the components I need, so it’s going to be close Remote App – I’ve written android apps before but I don’t have an android phone or tablet to test out the code Building two 64-LED matrices (easily 4-6 hours of soldiering) will test my patience Before I go here’s some of the progress I’ve made since Wednesday… Fake Pumpkin Open Back Hole Layout Holes Drilled That’s it for now so keep an eye out between now and next Friday for updates and the final project post on the 26th!   Thanks for reading, Tom   PS – If you have any ideas for projects that you’d like me to work on, or even if you want some advice on your electronics/programming project, just leave me a comment...

Tommy, Tomas, or Tom

Hi Everyone! My name is Tomas Frausto and this is where I come to blog and share some of my tech projects and experiences from work.  I’m really excited to publish about my life and everyday things that are fun like my hobbies and passions.  Maybe I’ll also throw in a few problems here and there too but I’ll be adding tutorials in the near future when I really start to dive in.   I’m an engineering supervisor at BD helping develop and test medical devices (see here).  I’m a computer engineer and I’ve been working on various hobby projects for the last 15 years so it could be fun to document some now. I see a ton of great projects happening in the world and I really want to help spread the word.  I’m an active supporter at Kickstarter and Indiegogo so you’ll definitely see some articles on projects that are really making a difference.  Who knows, maybe I’ll launch a product someday! A few of these early posts I imagine will be more like journal entries so I can get a handle on how everything works. After I get a little more comfortable, I’ll be creating some how-to’s and eventually even full tutorials or instructional series about things I know. Most things will be centered around technology, programming, and engineering skills that I want to share. I also have a passion for business and entrepreneurship so you might see some of that infused with the technology topics.   Thanks for reading! Tom   PS – Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions or advice.  I’m still...

Design2Part Expo

I’m getting ready to head over to the Design2Part Expo and it should be a lot of fun. I’m super excited because I’m literally walking to the expo! It’s only 2 blocks from my apartment in old town Pasadena. Update: I just poked my head out and it’s pouring rain… Hmmm. I really wish I had an umbrella. Lots of pictures, videos, and info to come. Thanks for reading!...
